The main house, built in l834, has an all-seasons view of the Hudson River and mountains behind it.  It looks across the river to the U. S. Military Academy at West Point.  It is positioned to see sunsets.  At sunrise, the sun reflects a golden red onto the officers’ brick homes along Colonel’s Row.  From the distance the freight trains en route below the academy have the appearance of toy trains.  The river traffic is fascinating, ranging from pleasure boats to cargo ships.

The property includes several unusual trees, including a rare copper beech and a 60-foot pine on the river side which occupants decorate at Christmas.  There are two dogwoods outside the screened porch on the side away from the river.
